
L. M. Montgomery, 1919
Lucy Maud Montgomery Macdonald (November 30, 1874 – April 24, 1942) was a Canadian author best known for her novel Anne of Green Gables (1908). She wrote numerous other novels, short stories, poems, and essays as well, which she often published under the pen name L. M. Montgomery.
Famous in her own lifetime, she was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1935 and was posthumously named a National Historic Person.
