Scout Leader Training Up During 1961 PROVO—Over twice as much training for scout leaders of Area No. 1 and No. 5 of the Utah National National Parks Counctt has been accomplished in the first three months of 1961 than was accomplished accomplished during the entire year of I960, it was reported today by Rulon Dean Skinner, District Scout Executive. During the first three months of-1961,. a total of 725 training certificates have been issued as compared with 352 for all of 1960. Nebo District is leading the six districts which comprise Areas No. 1 and No. 5 of the council in the job of leadership training. In Nebo'alone a total of 206 training certificates have been issued— 8.6 for each of the 24 scout units of the district. Another outstanding record was established by Palmyra District with 258 training ectrificates—5.7 certificates for each of the 45 registered units of Palmyra District. . • Erland Elmer is leadership training chairman of Nebo District; District; Wilford T. Johnson heads the leadership fa-dining 'program in Palmyra District. Other records in training in the section include: Timpanogos with 113 certificates for 3.6 per unit; Lehi with 48 certificates for 2.7 per unit; Alpine with 95 certificates certificates for 2.6 per unit; and Santaquin-Tintic Santaquin-Tintic with 5 certificates for .3 per unit. Calvin Walker is leadership training chairman in Timpanogos District; Jack Sly heads the training program in Lehi District; District; Glen Gordon is chairman of training at Alpine District; and Glen Milner is leadership training chairman in Santaquin- Tintic District. Of the 352 certificates issued in 1960, only 106 were issued during the first nine months of the year. Therefore, the 725 issued to date in 1961 is over seven times the rate of training as provided in 1960, concluded Mr. Skinner.
