John David Ehlers Obituary
John D. Ehlers: former Garnerville resident John David Ehlers of Naples, Fla., a former Rockland resident, died Wednesday at Naples Community Community Hospital at the age of 78. Mr. Ehlers was born in Jersey City, N.J., on July 2, 1910, to John and Therese (Besson) Ehlers. He moved to Rockland with his family in 1919 and for 45 years lived at Sand Street in Garnerville. In 1974, he moved to Florida. For 11 years, Mr. Ehlers was a sheet metal shop supervisor at West Point. He was a member of St. Peter's Church in Haverstraw. Survivors include his wife, Florence; Florence; five sons, William J. of Fairfax, Va., John David Jr. of Stamford, Conn., Richard Peter of Wallkill, Patrick Joseph of Garnerville, Garnerville, and George (Buddy) of Stony Point; two daughters, Reginia Marie Kraemer of Warwick, N.Y., and Sarah P. Leach of Santa Theresa, Theresa, N.M.; one sister, Ruth McElhone of Congers; one brother, Eugene J. Ehlers of Naples; 33 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. great-grandchildren. great-grandchildren. A graveside service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Cemetery in Haverstraw. Calling hours are to be held tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 133 Broadway, Haverstraw. Haverstraw.
