re- THREE MONTHS FOR Viciim's Moilier Dii ier Over Driver's Sentence A distraught Chula Vista mother is bitter this week about what she termed a "ridiculously light sentence" sentence" imposed on a sailor convicted of the vehicular manslaughter death of her daughter and three other youths in a headon collision over the Labor Day week end. ' THE SAILOR, Smith Rowe, 28, a second class boatswain matfr of the destroyer USS Boyd, was sentenced by Su perior Court Judge Robert W. Conyers, to three months in the county jail. Rowe said he had no recollection recollection of the accident after drinking beer in Tijuana. As a condition of three year's probation, Rowe's driver's license license was suspended for one year. '.' . '' '" " . Rowe collided head-on head-on head-on with a Volkswagen Sept. 4, while driving southbound in the northbound lane of U.S. 101 between Sycamore road and Dairy Mart road. ' f KILLED IN the collision were Mrs. Raso's daughter, Phyllis Messina, 21, and Nancy Nancy Dahlinger,. 20, both of 175 E St, Chula Vista. Also killed were Gary M. Hathaway and FOUR DEATHS' John Joseph Linden, both 19, and both of the attack transport transport USS Renville.'. ; . r - A fifth charge of felonious drunken driving was dismissed after Rowe pleaded guilty to the four manslaughter counts. In 1958, Rowe was convict- convict- : ed of misdemeanor drunken driving and served 60 days in Bethlehem, Pa., the court was advised. MRS.
