East Alton Employes Will Get Pay Increase A flat $15 a month salary increase for all employes was approved Tuesday night by the East Alton Village Board of Trustees. The only persons not receiving the increase were the mayor, the trustees, and several appointed specialists. Last night's increases matched the raises voted for the firemen and policemen at the previous meeting. The salary of Mayor C. A. Vanpreter remained at $312 a month, the trustees at $15 for each meeting they attend, Village Attorney Francis Manning, $150 a month, and Civil Defense Director Charles Gabbert, $100 a month. Street Commissioner Bentley Douglas remains the highest salaried, village employe with a new salary of $580 a month. Other high ranking salaried employes and their new amounts include Mrs. Margaret Pruitt, treasurer and sister of the mayor, $515 a month, plus the same 2 per cent of the village's motor fuel tax funds; Police Chief Harold Rigglns, $565; Fire Chief Cecil McGowan, $515; and Water Commissioner Wilbur Largen, $565. Previous across the board in creases for the firemen and policemen brought their starting monthly salary to $440 a month. The new salary ordinanace was approved on first, second and third readings and the increases will become effective May 1. Trustee Robert Link served as mayor in Vanpreter's ab sence.
