Wardeli school board. In meeting last night, voted unanimously to refuse enrollment to Negro students on the basis that it would cause confusion and disturbance in the community and the fact that present faculty is not sufficient to handle that many more students. Bob Winston, president of the Wardeli board, said, "At this lime of year it would be extremely difficult to hire enough qualified teachers to handle the load." Refuse Deering school board president Paul Elutchens said he does not know when the Deering board will meet, but that il has been the policy in the past to refuse admission to Negro students. Yesterday morning, the first day of Southeast Missouri's summer school term, 28 Negro students came to Wardeli and eight tried to enroll al Deering. Apparently there was no disturbance at ether place. Both Sheriff's officers and the state highway >afrol were on hand, but there was iltle interest in the Negroes' at tempt to enroll, officers said. Near Capacity John W. Taylor, superintendent at Wardeli, said his school at present is near capacity enrollment with about 360 students in th« lop :our grades. A definite enrollment figure is not available at this time registration was just completed yesterday. Deering High School presently las an enrollment of about 200 which is capacity for its present wildings, according to school officials.
