The Baton Rouge Advocate, of the 4th inst, has tbe following ' ' Our community received another grievous' shock on Wednesday, when the news reached1 us of the death of an old and esteemed citizen, t by the explosion of his saw mill boiler, at an: early hoar in the morning, on hisplantatioa . below this city. John Baptists Kleinpeter," Esq., was the victim to this deplorable acci - dent. Carrying out the habit of his nfe that' of personally superintending the affairs of Jus. plantation he went to the saw mill to see - that all was going on properly, and while, standing near the engineer, the boiler exploded. with awful effect, literally tearing the building - to pieces, instantly killing Mr. Kleinpeter ana dangerously injuring the negro fireman. - The - engineer (also a negro) was blown clear out of the bnilding, bnt received no material harm.' Mr. Kleinpeter was torn and mangled in the - mott shocking manner. His body was com - , plettfly severed . at the hips, a portion of the ; Lead torn away, andother wounds inflicted of f the ghastliest character. ; Mr. Kleinpeter, we believe, was a native of Louisiana, a wealthy planter, a high - toned' and honorable man, and was loved and re - f - C spected for bis many Christian qualities. - 'He ' , was at tbe time of his death President of thef Board of Directors of tb'e Branch of the Lou - - i isiana State Bank at this place. He leaves a, numerous circle of friends ard relatives tot sorrow over this mournful termination ef his4 useful lite. -
