Clerk arrested in slaying case Store employee confesses to faking fatal robbery Associated Press PLUM GROVE — A convenience store clerk, found handcuffed and gagged after an apparent robbery and slaying of the store manager last month, has been arrested and charged with theft Buddy Ray Culley II, 24, of Huffman, is free on $4,000 bond after he surrendered to Cleveland police, saying he faked the May 26 robbery at the Cleveland store, Capt Darrel Broussard said Wednesday. The early morning robbery of some $2,000 led family members to find the store's manager, Cheryl McCarty, 27, of Plum Grove, bound, gagged and shot in the head. They found Ms. Mccarty's pickup truck burned and destroyed several miles from her home. Police initially reported the thief had a key to the safe and believed the robber may have stolen Ms. Mccarty's keys, which were missing.
