In the bareback" riding contest Bob Orrison was first, Allen Davis and Buck Sprague,-formerly of Wasco, tying for second place. Ray Tarbell placed first in the Brahma bull riding with Don Watson and Ray Miller following in that order. The Brahma bulls were especially vicious with most of the riders being thrown. Streiff First JCorbert Streiff won first plate in the high school steer riding with Gerald Fields and Walter Gafner winning second and third. In addition, Is'orbert rode an exhibition bareback bronc which proved to be one of the roughest buckers seen all afternoon. There were some good tries made in the high school class by Gordon Skeels, Bennie McLeod,. last year winner of this class; Bennie Wilkinson, Albert Streiff, Jerry Holmes, Kenneth Miller, Pat Worley and Russel Robinson. Most of these boys were riding for the first time and they put on a good show and had a lot of fun, according to show officials. The up and coming DeMolay group won first prize in the parade with their float entry, followed by the Waseo Rotary Club and the Waseo Eagles with their first entry in the F.F.A. parade. Honorable mention went to the Wasco F.F.A. Alumni Club, winners of first place last year, and the group which put on the delicious barbecue prepared by Charley Castro, Kern county's famous chef. Honorable mention also went to a clever float entered by Archer's Garage depicting the consequences of "bad brakes." Barbecue Samplers A crowd of more thau 000 sampled Charley Castro's barbecue with the F.F.A. alumni and their ladies, assisted by friends of the group, putting over a smooth-working, well- organized job iff serving the delicious food.
