Most of these boys were riding for the first time and they put on a good show and had a lot of fun, according to show officials.

The up and coming DeMolay group won first prize in the parade with their float entry, followed by the Waseo Rotary Club and the Waseo Eagles with their first entry in the F.F.A. parade. Honorable mention went to the Wasco F.F.A. Alumni Club, winners of first place last year, and the group which put on the delicious barbecue prepared by Charley Castro, Kern county's famous chef. School Leaders Call Sport Meet promote better sportsmanship among students will be considered by a special committee of District 13, California Association of Secondary School Principals, which is serving under the chairmanship of Principal Jack Hill of Shafter High School.

Members of the group have been concerned about trends in sportsmanship and at a meeting March 1 Mr. Hill was appointed to serve as chairman of a committee to see what could be done to stimulate student interest in the subject. Mr. Hill immediately corresponded with officials of all high schools in the organization, which includes Kern county, and asked each principal to appoint a committee of one faculty member and one student to work with the all-county committee. Plans for developing a broad program to bring the matter of better sportmanship to the fore were discussed at a meeting'early in May.

Tentative plans call for special assemblies where the subject will receive emphasis.
