Boxing was also a favorite sport in Gaffney in the 1950s and 60s. Boxing coach Roy Turner took the 1955-'56 1955-'56 1955-'56 Gaffney Boxing Team to a 20-0 20-0 20-0 record. The team entered seven Gold Glove Tournaments, winning a total of 15 championships and 14 runner-up runner-up runner-up championships. They also won two novice championships that year. Kenneth Kenneth Green, Thomas Medley, Edward Osment, Woodrow Bridges, Reggie Martin, Martin, Lee Medley and Johnny Stephenson were among the members of the 1956 Gaffney team. Local parents also had bragging rights due to outstanding performances by some local student musicians. The Blacksburg High School band captured captured first place in the state in a 1953 competition. In 1956, the Granard High School band took first place for the third year in a row in competition at the Piedmont Interstate Fair. In 1957 the Gaffney High School Band won 10 first-place first-place first-place ratings at the Western District Music Festival held in Inman.
