1972 Sept 11 Cindy in Summer Reading Program
EIGHTY-NINE CHILDREN were enrolled in the Mt. Vernon Public Library 's summer reading program which ended August 26. Receiving diplomas and reading ribbons in the summer reading program were these children: first row, from left- Debbie Rohrschneider, Lori Funkhouser, Leigh Magee, Scott Metcalf, Robert Tate, Mike Tate, Laura Loss, and Susan Edwards. Second row, from left—Kathleen Doherty, Cindy Ann Cornwell, Rosemary King, Nanette Smith, Lisa Higgins, Pamela Milt, Joy Hayes, and Sandra Daily. Third row, from left—Greg Magee, Buddy Tate, Larry King, Clint Smith, Valeria Faulkner, Timothy Sgutt, and Curtis Henderson. Mrs. Dorothy Ireland, assistant librarian, junior department and Wendell Bout well, librarian. Not present for picture were Gregory Brown, Greg Parks, Morris Groom, and Bruce Pemberton. More than 3,500 books were circulated from July 10 through August 6. All city schools and several schools of the county were repreented. The theme for the reading club was "Build a Library" each student was given a "brick" for each book read to paste on his library -pictura poster. Basic requirement was to read 28 books, but many of the children read 46 or more to complete their libraries.
