Michael Assalone Mine accident page 2 Courier-Express Dubois - Penfield chest and massive internal injuries...
Penfield chest and massive internal injuries after the coal tipple collapsed on him earlier that morning. A truck laden with 25 tons of coal dumped the coal into the tipple, but because it was frozen into one large mass, the coal crushed the tipple, causing it to fall on Michael J. Assalone who was working beneath the tipple along with his brother, Pat. Michael Assalone was pinned between the roof of the tipple and the conveyor, it was stated at the time. Pat and other men working at the tipple extricated the victim and rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
