Served In Many Ways Accord Peter E. Rentschler HATI 'I Care' Recognition; Recall Campus Drive Efforts By CHRIS WHEELER Journal-News Staff Writer ' Peter E. Rentschler, Hamilton Hamilton industrialist and civic leader, leader, has been named to receive a Hamilton Association of Trade and Industry "I Care" award. Mr. Rentschler has . served the community in many areas, especially .in education. In, 1966 was chairman of the Greater Hamilton Campaign to raise funds for the creation of the Hamilton Campus of Miami University. The State of Ohio agreed to provide $1.8 million toward construction of a two-year branch campus if the community community could raise the remaining fourth, $600,000. Under the chairmanship of Mr. Henstchler, the campaign realized cash and pledges total- ling more than $1,560,000. An honorary doctor of laws degree ·was awarded MV. Rentschler last June during the Ulst commencement commencement exercise at Miami's Oxford Campus. The citation'presented to Mr. Rcnlschlcr said: "Peter E. Bentschler, industrialist and civic servant, standard - bearer of the community effort which made our Hamilton Campus possible, possible, your determination and vigorous optimism have, given frequent leadership to the broadening of the community's horizons." At one time the mayor of Hamilton referred to Mr. Rentschler Rentschler as "Mr. Hamilton," He was co-founder and the first president of the Hamilton Safety Council in 1942, and was one of the original trustees of the Hospital Care Corp. of Southwestern Ohio. He served eight years as a member of the Hamilton City Board pf Education with four years as president of the board.
