EAST ALTON.—Will Cobb was elected village pmldent by margin of five votes over Will Clark at a special election, and Ben Crews and John Paddock, unopposed, were named trustees. All were elected to fill unexplred terms. Cobb was to move Into the home of former President D. G. Tomllnson, now an Alton resident. "Uncle" Ben Crews' pet crow had >een killed. Jesse Stanley was taken seriously 111 at Hermann'* Hotel. L. A. Patterson had purchased the Miller homestead. Marriage of Postmaster J. B. Van- preter and Miss Nellie Smith of Edwardsvllle Cross- Ing took place at the home of the bride's parents. Supt. Pierce of the powder mill was to rent Z. Silver's new dwelling. Charles Ferguson had purchased a large coal wagon. A. Barr was to move his family to Alton.
