large trade. When vou want a buggy or wagon, give him a call. 42 - tf. - Temperance Notes. Correspondence of the Hmii.n. From Wednesday, the 22d until Tuesday, the 28th ult., there was not a drunken man seen in Antioch. Between these dates the saloon was closed. Tuesday of last week it was opened, and drunken men have been seen staggering on our streets every day since. There are a great many milk and water men in the world. You can't tell where they stand. They have no principles. Policy controls their every act. They can't exactly tell which side they are on Thev go with the current. They go with the men or the party they think is ahead, right or wrong. They use a great many 'ifs" and "buts." "I have no sympathy for the saloon business, but saloon keepers have rights," etc. "Saloons cause drunkenness, but drugs tores," etc. I have more respect, to - day, for Noah Brubaker than I have for a man who talks against the saloon business to temperance people, and in favor of the traffic to whisky men. You know on which side to find Brubaker. He believes in saloons he talks in favor of saloons. Brubaker does not talk in favor of saloons and then knock bis argument into a cocked hat with a "but" or an 'if.' Saloon keepers are united. They do not all use the same method to extend their business. Some use argument, (very bad), some clubs and some shot guns, lou never hear one saloon keeper say aught against a brother sal oon keepers method. They are in fav or of everybody and every thing that sustains their cause. Temperance men are not united, They want temperance laws passed, but they don't want temperance to get into politics. They want temperance meetings, and big ones, too, but you must not take a basket to the meeting. They want the law enforced ; they want it made .hot for the saloon keeper,' but don t ask the people (me you mean) lor money. It is not to be expected that all temperance people will unite' on all the ways, means and methods for the de struction of the whisky traffic We ex pect men and women to disagree on ways and means. But we do net ex pect them to quit fighting whisky. .and go to fighting each other's methods. Let us be united. It will take all. our powers and all our methods, s. m. M.
