1984 NHL Playoff format - best division record - best conference record - home-ice advantage
Prior to the start of the 1983-84 season, the NHL changed the manner in which home-ice advantage was determined for the conference and Stanley Cup finals. The advantage is now given to the divisions and conference with the better record.
