At Beauty Contest Mrs. Dwight Bazzell of East Alton Chosen As 'Mrs. Wood River Township' EAST ALTON'- Mrs. Dwight Bazzell took top honors in the Mrs. Wood River Township" beauty, contest Saturday night which -> highlighted the "Toast of the Township" variety show sponsored by the,East Alton's Junior Women's Club. Runncrs-up fft the contest were Mrs. Francis Minning and Mrs. Marshall Broderiek. / Nearly a full-house attended the program at the Community High Schpol where Mrs. Bazzell received 550, a gold loving cup and'a specially designed crown of flowers donated by Adams Floral Shop. Mrs. Bazzell lives in East Alton, is a member of the GAA, the Big Sisters, and the Pep Club and chorus at the Community High School. Her hobbies include dancing, swimming and sewing. The variety show, emceed by KSD-TV's Carl. M.clntire, included a host to big name entertainers as well as local talent. A fashion show, in which 10 contestants of the beauty contest acted as models, displayed women's apparel sold by local merchants. Throughout the program outstanding civic leaders from the surrounding area were introduced to the audience much in the rame manner as on Ed Sullivan's "Toast of the Town" program. All proceeds from the program will be turned over to local charities by the East Alton's, Junior Women's Club. At Brighton Hall PublicMeetGalledWednesday To Discuss School Bond Issue BRIGHTON — The executive, committee' of the Brighton Area League for Better Schools has called a public meeting at the Brighton Village^ Hall Wednesday at 8 p.m.. for the purpose of discussing the $700,000 'school bond issue to be voted on Saturday, March 26. The issue s being voted on the fourth time in Unit District 9. A controversy .as to site and adequate water supply has been one of. the contributing factors to the defeat of the bond issue in the past. The proposal to be submitted on March 26 is unchanged from the three previous proposals. If the bond issue is again defeated the executive committee'. plans to submit a "compromise" resolution in an effort to resolve the matter.
