Award winners in the island fashion show sequence of the Hillsdale Flower festival line up to receive trophies from William Callahan. Mrs. Clem Whilaker Jr. was the commentator for the style event, the final big feature of the show, which ended Saturday. Flower Show Ends In Colorful Style Mrs. Herbert Farewell of the Garden Study club of the Peninsula stands with her Award of Distinction entry in the Hillsdale Flower show. Her "Sonic Boom" entry used feathery celosia with white pampas and black -stems of tall bamboo. Mrs. Clem Whitker Jr., o Hillsborough took the microphone to describe costumes, worn bj members of garden clubs belong ing to district 4-B. First prize went to Mrs. Russell, Anderson of the San Mateo Newcomers Garden section, who was wearin, a sarong in wood rose tones decc rated with flowers which out lined her costume from the hem line to the garlanded neckline Awards also went to Mesdames John Rea Jr., Crestmoor Garden flub; Marvin Yarnell, Palomar Park Garden club; Richard Gar ner, Belle Monti Garden club and Ernest Gorman, Woodsid Hills Garden club. Judges wer Jill Brown, Dorothy Daly an Martha Cook. Junior awards with ribbons and scrapbooks were presentee by William Callahan of the Shop ping center, which sponsors the annual show. Debra Simoneon of (he San Bruno Junior Garden club and Sharon Sholkowfsy o: the Junior Branchers of the Bel mont Woman's club tied for the blue ribbon award. Second place went to Angela Aguileras.of the Pescadero Junior plant designers while third prize was received by Toni Lee Nunes of the Pescadero Noontime gardeners. Talented members of the Gar den Study club, of the Peninsula won a total of 24 awards. Mrs Herbert Farewell of Burlingamt received the award of distinction plus three blue ribbons in the individual categories of "Ki lauea," "Oriental Interpretation' and "Sonic Boom" groups. Mrs Gilbert Lowe took the Tri-Color award and two blue ribbons in "Enchanting Islands" and "Cham pagne Flight" classes. Mrs. Henry Boos and Mrs. Iva Newman Times garden columnist, carriec off the honors for the "Queen cif the Pacific" class, set up for special award winners of pasl Hillsdale Flower festivals. First award in the Conservation class went to Mrs. Albert Turner. Mrs. George Keyston of the Hillsborough Garden Crafters won the award for the most popu- lar flower arrangement, which was entered in the "Queen of Pacific" class. "In the Glow of Sunset," using anemone chrysanthemums in tones ranging from orange to red, combined with island wood and enhanced by small Japanese garden lantern a base of dark rocks. Mrs. E. J. Anderson of the Peninsula Santa Paulia society in Redwood City took home the'spe- cial trophy as the sweepstakes winner with the greatest number of blue ribbons won in the Connoisseurs Troy's
