r tt-- i ni Passenger Hijacks Plane In Needles, Is Captured A Massachusetts man is being held for San Bernardino deputy sheriffs in the Prescott, Ariz., jail after he allegedly hijacked a light aircraft at gunpoint yesterday at Needles. Yavapai County Undersheriff Walt Sanders said his office arrested Paul Edward Lynch, 31, of Marlborough, Mass., at the northern Arizona mining community of Bagdad after he landed in a plane reportedly stolen at gunpoint at Needles. The suspect is being held on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping, Sanders said. Because plane hijacking is a federal offense, FBI agents joined in the search and investigation. After Lynch had been arrested in Arizona, a FBI spokesman in Phoenix said that his office will investigate the case and submit a report to the U.S. Attorney in Phoenix. Lynch is being held in Prescott pending an extradition hearing to California, Sanders said. The pilot of the chartered plane, Jay William Gunsauls, 28, a fireman in El Cajon and part-time instructor for the El Cajon Flying Service, owner of the stolen plane, said he left El Cajon with Lynch at 11 a.m., bound for Porterville, Calif.
