Public Meeting. A meeting of the Democracy of Madison county was held at the Court House in Marshall I WET .1 . 1 , i -i -i , t n - . i on ti eunesuay tne l via or uctober, tor tne pur pose of appointing delegates to represent Madi- Madi- son in the District Convention to be held at Asheville Asheville on the 30th of December, to elect delegates to represent the 8th Congressional District in the approaching National Convention; and also to appoint delegates to attend the State Convention to be held in Raleigh, to nominate a candidate for Governor.- Governor.- On motion of Gen. B. M. Edney, Dr. John Yancy was called to the Chair, and L. M. Allen appointed'Secretary. The object of the meeting was explained in a "brief and appropriate address bv Gen. Ednev and Marcus Erwin, Esq., after which Gen. Edney Edney introduced the following resolutions, which were unanimously adopted, and upon motion the names of the Chairman and Secretary were added added to both lists of delegates. Resolved, That the Chairman of this meeting be requested to appoint 25 delegates to attend the District Convention to be held at Asheville on the 30th of December next, to elect two delegates delegates to represent the 8th Congressional District in the approaching Democratic National Convention. Convention. Resolved, That we Approve the administration of his Excellency John W. Ellis, and recommend his rcnoiniaatdon. Resolved, That the Chairman appoint 10 delegates delegates to represent the Democracy of Madison county in the State Convention to be held in Raleigh Raleigh to nominate a candidate for Goyernor. Resolved,1h&t while we are not disposed to interpose obstacles in the way of the concert and harmony of the action of the approaching National Convention, yet we are constrained "from a sense of duty to our party and its oft tried nationality to declare that the doctrine recently recently espoused by Mr. Douglas, on the subject of Federal and Local authority in the Territories, Territories, is not the doctrine of the National Democratic Democratic party. - Resolved, That the Chairman he authorized to appoint two proxies to attend the State Convention, Convention, in the event none of those appointed attend. attend.
