Charles Richard Rash and wife Barbara in Car Accident in Iredell County
Rash Cited By Trooper Charles Richard Rash, 24, of route 8, Statesville, was admitted to Iredell Memorial Hospital after the car which he was driving wrecked shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday. The accident, about a mile north of the city limits on Chipley Ford Road, reportedly occurred after Rash lost control of his 1966 Chevrolet in a curve as he was travelling south. The auto then slid sideways in the roadway some 250 feet from where it went out of control, according to the wreck report. Leaving the road surface to the left, the car overturned down an embankment, coming to rest on the top. Both Rash and his wife, Mrs. Barbara Rash, were pinned in the auto. Mrs. Rash was freed by an ambulance driver. Rash complained of a back injury and was removed from the car by members of the Iredell County Rescue Squad using a back support board. Both were taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Rash was examined and released. Rash was X-rayed and no fractures were detected but he was admitted for observation. Trooper G. M. Dowdle charged Rash with driving too fast for conditions. Damage to the auto was listed as $1,000.
