Succumbs To illness SPRINGVILLE — Maria Jane Jones Shepherd, 75, died Monday morning at the home of a brother in Mapleton following following a five- month illness. She was born Sept. 7, 1885 in Schofield, Carbon Carbon County, a daughter of John T. and S a r a-h Lester Jones. She was married to Joseph Hyrum Iv Shepherd on April 15, 1804, and their marriage was later solemnized solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Shepherd died in 1960. The Shepherds made their home in Thistle for most of their married married life. Mrs. Shepherd served as Relief Society president for a number, of years, and also taught 'in the Primary and Sunday Sunday School organizations. Her hobbies hobbies were sewing and quilting. Surviving are a son, Franklin Shepherd of Thistle; three grandchildren; grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters, Frank Jones of Mapleton; Mapleton; Richard Jones of Spanish Fork; George Jones, Thomas Jones, Mrs. Herbert (Mary) Gabbitas Gabbitas and Mrs. Sarah Mason, all of Springville, and Mrs. Michael (Martha) Maloney of Price. Funeral services will be conducted conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Springville First LDS Ward, under the direction of Harold Knutson, presiding bishop of the Thistle Branch. Friends may call at the Wheeler Mortuary Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday prior to services. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
