18 — The Mercury, Pottstown, Pa. - Sat., May 22, 1976 Rogers last hope in class AA track Mike Rogers is all that St. Pius X has left in the PIAA Class AA state track championships at Shippensburg State College today. The Winged Lion senior finished second in the discus trials Friday with a heave of 153-6. The top throw of the day was 153-11. Rogers, who was the District One champion at 142-6, holds the Pius school mark at 154-6. Rick Fontaine, Pius’ District One 330 intermediate intermediate hurdles titlist, finished third Friday with a a 40.9 and failed to make the final field Pius’ 880 relay squad, which also placed first in the District One meet, was disqualified when Bill Gibbs ran into anchorman Fontaine, knocking Fontaine out of the passing zone. Mike Lack and Joe Kushnerick ran the first two legs. “We were in second place when it happened,” said Pius coach Ed Dobry. “Rogers is all we have now and he could do it.”
