of are . as out by And insists gambling. professional is , ' * * * UNESCO Ahiah school editorial pointing the way to greater friendship between nations, BY DOROTHY DAUGARD 1 Central High School The United'Nations is trying desperately to keep pence in this troubled world; needs help. It needs something of common interest to draw all people together. Culture is one thing that everyone can understand and enjoy. It is not necessary be French or Polish to enjoy music by Debussy or Chopin. It is not necessary to English to appreciate Dickens, or Spanish love the inimitable "Don Quixote," What does it matter who composed the music wrote the book, or discovered the drug? it' has become great it is not because, person's nationality, but because it was the advantage of everyone. The United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization--UNESCO--is doing doing all it can to further understanding between the peoples of the world. A small group cannot do this alone; it must be helped by the very people it wishes to unite. This organization has not had much publicity, 'and many people have never even heard of it., How can it be successful if few people know it exists? Would not radio programs, articles in newspapers and school contests, featuring the work of this organization, make people more conscious of the far reaching influence of education, science and culture as a unifying element?
