Bids have been opened at the war department for supplying about 200,000 pounds of gunpowder for saluting purposes for the coast, field and siege artillery with the following results: Bernard Peyton of California, for powder delivery at Benicia arsenal, 9 cents per pound. Lawlin & Rand, delivered at Benicia, 9 9-10 cents per pound; at Rock Island and Dover, N. J., 8 8-15 cents. Dupont, Nemous & Co., delivered at Benicia, 10 cents per pound; at Rock Island and Dover, 8 85-100 cents.
