Gowan descendants in June 2 family reunion Descendants of the Gowan family, early Navarro County setUers, held a reunion June 2 at Central Methodist Church in Corsicana. Those attending were all descended from a common ancestor, John Gowan of Columbus County, North Carolina. The reunion was organized in 1975 and is held in Kosciusko, Miss., in alternate years. A large number of Gowan descendants from six states gathered for the day of fellowship. The event included a trip to the White Church Cemetery in Blooming Grove where early family members are buried. Special guests were Mrs. Evalyn Gowan Mueller, 91, of San Antonio, and Roy I,ee Gowan, 87, Corsicana, who are the oldest members of the family living. Mrs. Nettie Mae Flovin of Columbus, Ohio, came the fartherest to attend. Also recognized was Mrs. Annie Armstrong of Waxahachie to whom the Gowan-Morley Book was dedicated. Out-of-state representatives present included Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Gowan, Mr. and Mrs. James Gowan, Frank Young Gowan of McAdams, Miss.; Tim Gowan, Jackson, Miss.; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fisher, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. John McFarlone and children, Shreveport, La.; and Phillip Gowan, Brentwood, Tenn Attending from Texas were Mr. and Mrs. Hugh G. McKinley and Kay of Kilgore, Mr. and Mrs. Ijeonard D. Anderson, Mr and Mrs Claude McFarlane, Mrs. Evalyn Mueller. San Antomo; Dr. Robert L Gowan, Miss (iail McMorrough, Houston; Miss Edith Hodges, Abilene; Mrs Annie Armstrong, Waxahachie; Mike Vess, Mansfield; Also Mr. and Mrs Duke Gowan and Ted of Austin; Deborah Lynn Gowan, Dallas; Mrs. Ixmise Dover, Burleson; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Byrum, Lancaster; Mrs. Virginia Jones, Wilmer; and Mr and Mrs Pat Isom, Caddo Mills. Those from Corsicana included Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Gowan, Charlie Vess, Mr and Mrs. Raymon Gowan, Vernon Thomason, Mr and Mrs. George Eliot, Edd Gowan, Mrs. Elaine Gowan Jones, Mrs. Jimmie K. Boggs, Mrs. Ann Wiley, Scott and Mark, Mrs. Margaret Blackman, Miss Zetta Morris, and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Gowan. Serving as hosts for the occasion were Phillip Gowan of Bentwood, Tenn., the Ted Gowans and the Raymon Gowans of Corsicana. The next reunion is scheduled in Kosciusko, Miss, on the first Saturday in August, 1980.
