A TABLET. Since the old Church street school, formerly known as the Second ward school, and still earlier as the "Big School" is the first brick school house built in Decatur and one of the 1 md- marfcs of the city, the board of education education decided to erect a tablet in the building bearing the 'date of erection the names of the members of the board that time. The tablet will be Inscribed ag follows: "1856, J. J. Peddicord, E O. Smith and P. B. Shepherd." The.building was started In 1856 and finished i n 1857. The contractors were Rlcketts Hoagland. The contract price was about J6.000. In 3879 a two-room addition addition was built by Harrison S. Baker, according to plans made by Georgp P. Randall of Chicago.
