De interceptor up of he the by had Is Dismissed For Witchcraft ELDRIDGE, Calif., Oct. 13.-(IP)--A 13.-(IP)--A woman employe dismissed for "witchcraft" gets a hearing today at the Sonoma state home for the feeble minded. She is Mrs. Lorena Blackwell, dismissed Sept. 8 and accused 1. Scaring patients by grabbing them in the dark. 1. Threatening to put a "curse"' on patients and employes 3. Terrifying patients by the 'practice of witchcraft." The state personnel board is hearing her appeal. Through her attorney, Charles C. Greenfield, Jr., of Sonoma, she indignantly denied the charges. Greenfield added: "She doesn't know any more about witchcraft than I do. She .s an intelligent woman." But Dr. Marshall E. Porter, superintendent of the home, declares declares concerning the witchcraft charge: "I know it sounds screwy, but s true." He said she gave counsel to patients from her study hi the occult, told them their lives were ;overned by the phases of the moon. Dr. Porter said she went about ;he dining hall throwing salt in -he corners to exorcise evil spirits and used gestures to put "the double whammy and the hex ler enemies." "She was scaring the patients and some of the employes half death," Porter said.
