Former Liberty Marine Killed In SEA Combat Marine Staff Sgt. James W. Barton, a former resident of Liberty, was killed in action in Quang Nan, Vietnam on May 5. Sgt. Barton was a chief mechanic with the Marine Motor Motor Transport, 3rd Marine Division. Barton was born in Freeport, Freeport, Texas on June 8, 1935. He is survived by his wife Joyce Ann Withrow Barton, three children, Candice Lynn 10, James Wesley, Jr. 9 and Melvin Bretts, 8. Also, his parents Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Barton, Mrs. Faye Colvin, sister, all of Teague, Texas. Another sister, Mrs. Althea Pacifico resides at Pasadena. Also, surviving are Mrs. D. H. Hickman, cousin,; Mr. J. H. Johnston, uncle; Mrs. W. H. Vaughn, aunt, all of Liberty Liberty and another uncle, Mr. J. M. Johnston of Baytown. Other cousins were: Mr. and Mrs. Malcom Johnston, and Mrs. Walter Murphy of Liberty and Mrs. C. C, Smith from Beaumont. Sgt. Barton's body arrived in Ocean Side, California on May 22, accompanied by a service buddy of 9 years, Sgt. M. Dollians. Funeral services were held in the Teague Methodist Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on May (Continued on Page 10) Sgt. J. W. Barton
