Near Collision Steals Show In Encinal Yacht Club's Regatta Bill Trask’s Farallone Clipper, Hoyden II, put on the best performance performance yesterday in the Encinal Encinal Yacht Club Regatta, but the major excitement came when Henry Grandin Jr.’s 46- foot Amorita nearly sliced the committee boat in half. Amorita was bearing right into Jim Fore's Lufore IV, the 45-foot committee boat, when Grandin threw the helm hard over just in time. The Amorita crew had to fend her stern away from Lufore IV to avoid a collision. collision. Hoyden II beat every boat in her class and all but six in Class A-B with a time of 3:5307 3:5307 for the 20.2 mile course. Howard Ellis’ Prophet all but nailed down the Yacht Racing Assn. Vanguard Class title by winning yesterday while Pan, her major challenger, did not finish. Blue Chip, owned by W. A. Colherg, was second. Ed Brovelli Brovelli Jr., who skippered Blue Chip, has contracted to buy Prophet from Ellis. Upsets marked the first half of the regatta Saturday. The most startling was the defeat of Bob Keleher’s Magic in the Bear Class by Bob Burchel’s Golden Bear. Magic was second by a whopping five minutes, in her! first loss after three victories j this season.
