At Macauley's Theater for one week, beginning beginning to-morrow to-morrow to-morrow evening, Blanche Walsh and Melbourne MacDowell will be seen In Fanny Davenport's production of Hardou's "La Tosca" and "Fedora." "La Tosca" will be presented on Monday. Thursday and Saturday nights and at the Wednesday matinee, and "Fedora" win be the bill on Tuesday. These Sardou plays will be given with all the wealth, of seenlo magnificence for which the productions of Fanny Davenport Davenport were noted. .The engagement Is of more than ordinary ordinary interest, because of the fact that Ijouisvillo is to see a new Floria La Tosca and a new Fedora in the person of Blanche Walsh. Miss Walsh is no stranger to this city, but she has never appeared here or anywhere else until this season in roles calling for such an equipment of youth, feminine beauty and talent, and yet It Is generally acknowledged that Miss Walsh in the possessor of all these qualities so essential to great success upon the stage. "Ia Tosca" Is a play .which presents opportunities for the expression of all the pumloni which rack the human mind jealout anger, terror, grief, intense love, desperation, joy. almost to the verge of delirium. delirium. Such must be portrayed strongly, clearly and with no element of uncertainty. uncertainty. In very few plays can there be found such a- a- terrible situation as that in the Third act, where La Tosca'a lover is being Tortured within her hearing. Miss Walsh ny the force and clearness of her acting has established her right to be ranked with Davenport. "ieoora" will be theatrical In its devices devices and effects, act are all of Sardou's works, but it is truly and genuinely dramatic dramatic In construction it is a masterpiece; There is not a scene, hardly a word, that Is not essential to the working out of the Theme. So deftly and completely is the story told that the audience is never pux-xied pux-xied pux-xied as to the sequence of events, the cause and the effect alike or the complications thy that Is arousedV7?r4ntural, despite any rrson to purely tneatricat aevices. That Melbourne MacDowell will be again welcome in Louisville dos not need to be said. lie is an excellent actor, a good fel low in tne beat acceptation of that term, and has always been popular in this citv.
