Arrests of Henry McCollum and Leon Brown (North Carolina, NEI)

NEI stands for "Not Executed, Innocent." These two were exonerated in 2014 after McCollum spent 31 years on death row, and Brown spent 31 years between death row and a life sentence, for a murder they did not commit. They came close to being executed, and conservative SCOTUS Justice Antonin Scalia used their case to justify the existence of the death penalty despite the flimsy evidence used to frame them.
