Local Explorers Attend Washington Conference Ten Explorer Scouts from Utah County are attending the National Explorer Presidents' Congress in Washington, D.C., this week, thanks to financial assistant from U.S. Steel. Geneva Works is sponsoring nine of the boys and Keigley Quarry the other one. They are, Brady Christensen and Stacey Johnson, Provo; Greg McCarrel. of Lehi; Daren Oberg of Genola (Keigley Quarry); Scott Shepherd of Alpine; Dan Starley of Orem, Ron Thatcher of Springville; Scott Trotter of Salem, Scott Warburton of Pleasant Grove, and David Wilson of Springville. All 10 are sons of U.S. Steel employees. This is the sixth year for the event .which brings together some 2,000 post presidents from all over the country. The Presidents' Congress is designed to help outstanding young people become better leaders among their peer groups. While in Washington, Brady and Stacey will have the opportunity to participate in leadership development workshops, act as delegates to both regional and national conventions where new officers are elected and help determine Explorer goals and programs for the coming year. Utah County Explorers will also attend career and public responsibility seminars aimed at helping these young Americans understand their country's economic system.
