Welsh, above, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. X. Welsh, of 318 Academy street, who received his wings in the U. S. Paratroops two years ago at Fort Ben-nlng, Georgia, has been promoted to first lieutenant and executive officer with a Paratroop regiment which has been in the front line in France since D-Day, June 6th. His father is court reporter and sports editor for the Times-Leader Evening News. Lt Welsh was inducted into the Army on January 20, 1941 and volunteered for the paratroops four weeks later at Cumberland, Maryland. He trained at Fort Benning, eorgia, Alabama, Tennessee ana nrt Rmffff. Korth Carolina, and one year after being in the service he was selected to attend Officers Training School and became a second lieutenant. On August 12, 1943, Lt. Welsh was sent with his paratroop unit overseas and also attended a paratroop school In London, He is a graduate of Meyers High School where he won State scholastic honors in high diving and swimming and also held the YMCA State high diving championship for two years. Prior to his induction he was employed as a clerk in the office of the county commissioners. SOME SHOES
