Mask, Kian Monument In New Orleans Angers NAACP NEW ORLEANS (UPI) -Members -Members of the NAACP youth council want the city to an old Civil War historical marker they say the Ku Klux Klan views as a monument to Â· white supremacy. The Klan, meeting this Week in neighboring St. Bernard Parish, plan a rally at the Battle of Liberty Place monument monument Sunday. "The mayor and others have said the the monument doesn't pose any problem, that it's a historical structure," said NAACP council advisor Llewelyn Llewelyn J. Soniat Friday. "But if the Klan is going to rally around it, and we know the Klan stands for, then it must represent some of those things." The granite monument was erected at the foot of Canal Street in 1874 by the Crescent City White League to commemorate commemorate the ousting of carbelbaggers who ruled the city immediately after the Soniat said his group and other black organization may st age a counter-demonstration if the Klan goes through its planned rally at the monument.
