BY LAKE LIGHTS ARE ASSURED Transfer of $22,500 to Park Department Provides For Conduiti for "Necklace "Water Acts Are Endorsed Immediate construction of the "necklace of lights" around "Lake Merrltt was assured this morning by the city council, which, at the request of Commlaaloner V. J. Bac- cua, transferred $11,500 from the public betterment fund to the park department for conduits connecting the light standards which will circle the lake. The conduits will cost about $37.-000. but the park department will be authorize dto make a part-payment contract, the rest of the money coming In next year. The total cost of everything. Including lights and poles, will be about $71, 000, but the lights and poles are being- donated by citizens and business firms. As another move toward Improving the lake district, the council ordered the city engineer to pre-part plans to pave Grand avenue from the Embarcadero to Wild-wood avenue. The council also assured the financing of the municipal camps at Spanish Creek and South Fork this year toy transferring isouo irom the street to the recreation department fund. At the request ef the East Bay Municipal Utility district the coun cil Indorsed the senate bills verify ing the organization and the bonds of the 'utility district, and resolved to ask the governor to sign them. Commissioner Frank coinourn was granted a 15 day leave of ab sence by the council. 9 0
