A. S. MILLER'S HAT IN RING FOR RECORDER The number of candidates for the Republican nomination for Recorder of Deeds of Lebanon county at the primaries next month was increased to five this morning, when Arthur S. Miller, of Annville, popularly known as "Ussy" Miller, -who has been the acknowledged Republican leader in his district, threw his "katy" in. the ring as an aspirant for that particular office. He Is a merchant of Annville, and . is widely known throughout the city and county, anthas a host of friends various fields of activity, Including business, social spheres and sports. In the baseball world Mr. Miller was a star, first in independent circles, having played for evqry baseball town in the county. He played on three of the city's leading teams, Lebanon All-Collegiate.s; Lebanon Independents, and later on "Pop" Kelchner's Lebanon Tri-State team. Known as "Ussie" Miller he was an institution back.of the batter's plate. In recent years he umpired in independent baseball and in the City League. o As a party worker he served eighteen years on the Republican County Committee, holding positions on the executive committee and as secretary. He served his district for many years as a political leader doing active work in the campaign to numerous candidates for public office. At present he holds the position of President of.the Board of Commissioners of Annviile township. His public interest was manifested by devoted service in tho war drives especially those relating directly to the' welfare of the boys at the front. For many years he- has conducted a popular store and restaurant in Annville and has traveled the county' as representative for different business concerns. Possessing a genial disposition and a courteous manner he has warm friends In every part of the county who recognize, these as especially important to the candidate for public office. Coupled with business and political experience his candidacy has already won for him pledges of support from a circle >>f intimate acquaintances who havo urged him to make a public announcement. Among his numerous supporters are many influential political leaders who assure him hearty support. Mr. Miller plans to make a strenuous campaign and will endeavor !••> meet the voters personally. He pledges himself to faithful public service and on this platform solicits tho voters' support. _
