Only three railroads are shown on the map, one being the 'Toledo .and Northwestern,' now known as the Chicago and Northwestern; the Milwaukee across the south part of the county; and the old Burlington, Cedar Rap- lus and Nortnern (now the Rock Island) which clipped off the southwest corner of Garfield township on its way to ville. Both 'branches of the Rock Island across north Kossuth, the stub line into Ti tonka, and the old Iowa Central (later abandoned under M. and St. L. owner- ship) from Algona, as \veil/flS v the'!Burt»*'ox!iIjake- branch of the 'Northwestern, all' Were built after this map was drawn. The towns of Swea City, Lakota (first called Germania),. Fenton, Lone Rock, Titonka, and St. Benedict, are not shown on the old map, by reason of the fact that they did not yet exist. Likewise, six present-day townships do not appeal'; the territory now included in Eagle and Swea was then all designated as Swea twp., while all of the present Greenwood, Harrison, Springfield and Grant belonged to Greenwood township, and all of what is now Ramsey, Lincoln and Ledyard townships was called Ramsey township. Five P. O.'s Gone. Five postoffices no ' longer in existence are shown on the map. Old Buffalo Fork postoffice on Section II, Portland township, was later replaced by Titonka several miles eastward. The old settlement of Fenton, then the postoffice, stood 5 miles southeast of the present village. Three Ijosloffices now defunct are also shown, including Ramsey, 5 miles northeast of Bancroft; Swea, 6 miles northwest of the present Rwea City; and Seneca, one of the older postoffices in the county, which had been moved at various times until at the time Mr. Smith's map was drawn (probably about 1890)- it was located in the Bollig farm home northwest of the present Seneca consolidated school.
