 - Back Home After Three City Years by Bobby...
Back Home After Three City Years by Bobby Batson I'm home now. I've been to the city. For three years I've been living there. Many of us grow up here, then go to the city to make a better living or to just get away. Most comeback only to visit. After you've lived in the city, Hearne is never again the same. I don't know enough to tell you what change takes place, but you've seen it. If you've been here long enough, you've seen the young people leave, and change. We lose a lot of good people. The city can do strange things to your head. It can make you forget where your roots are. It can make you forget you grew up here and because of that, you are part of this town. It can make you forget that growing up here was a pretty good trip after all. It can make you forget, or even resent, the simplicity of a small town. Many have asked what in the world I'm doing back in Hearne. I've given some pretty standard answers, and have seen some really funny looks to my replies. I'm not crazy, but I was heading in that direction. I had to get away from the city before it took possession of me. I was becoming part of it, and that I didn't like. I've come home a while to get my head on the right track. I'm here to recharge my battery. I think it's working. I am back to see the people again; to see the changes; to be able to walk anywhere I want to go; to be able to drive to the other side of town in five minutes; to hear the trains clank, bang, and whistle; to hear the six o'clock whistle; to see kids playing baseball; to hear what everyone is doing-] could go on... I've come back to see all those things that are a part of Hearne, and now are a part of me because I grew up here. If you've been away a while, I think you know what I mean. I'm home now. I like it here. I just might decide to stay.
