fourth Thursday of each month. the Church of the Nazarene for Cost Of Sewer Project Goes Up At East Alton EAST ALTON.— Mayor Charles Vanpreter at the village board meeting Tuesday night gave a report on the estimated cost of the proposed village sewer project as compiled by Charles Sheppard, village engineer. The, overall estimated cost of the project has increased from $140,000, which was the estimate in 1955 when the project was under discussion, 1 to $167,000 today. Vanpreter explained that the increase was due to labor wage hikes during the last two years. The cost estimate was drawn up by the village after several bonding companies indicated interest in the project. A communication from the Illinois Commerce Commission was read advising the board of a hearing to be held at Springfield on Oct. 8 at which time the commission will vote on the proposed fare increase of the Wood- River-Alton Bus Co. A resolution to send a 'man to the Illinois Firemen's Convention was approved. Ed Bickmoor will attend thn fire flnllpw in Taylorville from Oct. 15 tlirough Oct. 17. In other business the boart approved a bond submitted for Richard Donohoo, probationary patrolman, who started on the police force Sept. 30. William Keil, Dan Kilmer and Glenn Steinburg were present in behalf of the Fire and Police Commission to clarify the functions of the commission with regard to hiring and disciplinary action in relation to fire anc police personnel. The matter became a question requiring legal explanation and was turned over to Francis Manning, village, attorney, until a future date. v Two local citizens were present to ask the board for help regarding a recurring sewer problem under a section of sidewalk between their two homes. They both stated that children of the neighborhood are exposed to raw sewage as a result of the erupting sewer.
