Obituary. Weldox, N. U., March 26, '94 Died, in the city of Petersburg, Vir ginia, on January 24, 1894, Mariou E., youngest son of the late Col. J.j B. Zollicoffer, of Halifax county, N. C. " Eph," as he was familiarly called, was born and reared in Halifax county, near Weldon, and when quite a boy he was offered a position as salesman by Mr. James T. Gooch, at that time otie of the leading merchants of Weldon, which position he filled acceptably for several years and being desirous of becoming a druggist he resigned this position to accept one with his brother Dr. A. It. Zollicoffer, whovas at that time and is now a successful druggist and practitioner. He was a bright and intelligent young man aud soon became familiar with the business and commanded a liberal share of the drug patronage. He was exceedingly popular and had a wide circle of friends who would frequently congregate at liis place of business to hear him tell jokes, at which he was most happy. Quitting the drug business he eugaged iu mercantile pursuits on his owu account but soon retired and went to Virginia where he remained until his death. Marion Zollicoffer was a natural genius and no young man had more friends'or fewer enemies. He was born in 1858 and was consequently about thirty-s;ix years of age at the time of his death. He leaves three brothers to lament his early demise, two of whom are physicians and the other a successful attorney of Henderson, .N. C. wien his illness was made known to jhis brothers two of them left immediately for Petersburg to render bim evfery assistance in their power. He died of pneumonia and only lived about two days after being taken sick. His remains were brought home and interred in the family burying ground near this place, Rev. It. P. Troy conducting the service. The esteem in which he was held was thoroughly demonstrated I by the large concourse of friends, white and colored, who met his remains! at the train and following them to the grave. He was a kind hearted fellow and would divide his last dollar Wjth a friend. In the death of Mariou Zollicoffer a noble hearted young mhn has passed away. A Friend!
