RD McCotter Murdered
B. D. McCotter Murdered. From Mr. R S. Griffin, of Bsyboro, we learn of the murder of Mr. Richard D. McCotter, one of the leading men of Pamlico oounty. He lived near Pamlico posteffioe some nine mile below Bay -boro and was shot while going from hie house to his store about a mile distant about 9 o'clock Thursday morning by some party unknown, a load of buck shot entering the baok of his head. The news reaohed Bay boro by the coroner being sent for to hold the inquest. At the last reports we heard there was no clue to the assassin. The murder was not discovered until dinner time owing to the faot that Mr. McCotter used a by-path, over which there was not much passing to shorten the distance between his house and store. Mr. McCotter was nearly fifty years of age. He was the Representative from Pamlijo in the Legislature 8 year ago. He spent his boyhood days in New Berne and was for a number cf yenrs with Mr. ZiccbeuB Slado the father of Mrs. S. J. Dudley, with whom be served an apprenticeship at the harness rank er's trade in the carriage factory wbioh he was running here at that time. He afterwards attended Trinity College and graduated there. Mr. McCotter was a very smart man, of wide information and was a member of the legislature in both '83 and '89. A postal received after the above was put in type gives us the latest information. It says the shot was fired from ambush, that the assassins are suspected and that developments are be ing awaited. Mr. MoCotter teperated from bis wife about 20 years ago, and three or four years agoreoeived "white cap" letters, on aooount of intimacy with another woman, it i said; and had received another sinoe.
