Richards removed his goods from hia residence, on Reed street, to a new abode, corner of Wylie avenue and Roberts street. He bai assisting him another colored man name! John Green. While In the act of removing some of the furniture the two got into a quarrel over the amount of mony to be given Green for his services. Tbe wordy altercation was soon followed by a pugilistic encounter during which Green kicked Richards severely in the stomach, inrticting it ia said very serious internal injuries. After the quarrel Green made himself scarce, ani Richards was conveyed to his new home where Dr. Thorn rendered medical aid. At an early hour this morning word was sent to the Mayor's office by telephone that Richards would probably not live till daybreak. Up to a late hour Green had not been captured. Later Richards died from his injuries about two o'clock this morning. His last hour was fpent amidst great suffering. Green, the colored assailant was arrested shortly after Richard a' death by Officer Scott Taper, a colored member of the force and Oflicer Tomer. Green was safely conducted to the lock-up. He cl aims that he acted solely in self-defense. There was great excitement among the colored population on the hill last night.
