Bahamian Leader Will Speak Here Dr. Doris L tor and cabinet member of the government of the Bahamas, will be the guest speaker at Sunday's Women's Dav services at the Pilgrim Baptist Church in San Mateo. Dr. Johnson will be honored at a welcoming reception on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pilgrim Baptist Fellowship Hall, Monle Diablo and North Grant Streets. The leader of the Woman Suffrage movement in the Bahamas from 1959 to 1962, Dr. Johnson was the first woman to address the Bahamas Legislature on votes for women. In 1967, she was elected the first woman senator in the self - governing British colony. Dr. Johnson is the founding member of the Bahamas Folklore Group, president, of the National Woman's Housing A - Sue Ltd., and coordinator of the Women 'sAuxiliary of the Bahamas Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention. "The. Next Step: Votes for Women" and "The Quiet Revolution in the Bahamas" are both books which have been written by Dr. Johnson. Dr. Johnson will speak at the 8 a.m. and U a.m. Women's Day worship services which are open to neighbors, friends and other interested persons.
