SENTENCED. — George Gropp, who murdered a man named Laughlin, gome months since, in his saloon at Madison, was tried in the Circuit Court at Edwardsrille, on Saturday, and sentenced to six years imprisonment in the Penitentiary. Messrs. Metcalf and Burnett appeared *or the defense, and Messrs. Halbert and Happey for the prosecution. The counsel for the defense, we understand, win appeal to the Supreme Court, on the ground that the Judge did not impannel the jury in accordance with the new law. There is considerable dissatisfaction with the verdict, the general opinion being that it is entirely inadequate to the offense.
