The Saloons la the City Outnumber the Baker - lea More Than Five to One. According to a tabulated statement issued by the Law and Order Society from the office of Lewis D. Vail there are 5.9(6 drinking saloons in the city, 1,064 bakeries and Zfit! groceries in other words, there are more drinking saloons than bakeries and groceries put together. The statement further shows that the total vote for President in Philadelphia at the last election was 174,902. and at the above rates this makes a saloon to every 29 voters, a grocery to every 52. V, wneroas there is only one bakery to every 164) voters. There is yet something more to be learned from tills statement In the Sixth ward there are 270 saloons, or one to every 7tf voters; in the Klevemn ward there are 200 saloons, or one to evory 13 voters. The Twenty - ninth ward has a larze vote, but it also has the smallest percentage of saloons, saloons, 193, or one to every 45 voters. The Twenty - fourth comes next, with one to every 44. The Fourth, Fifth, Ninth and Twelfth have high percentages, averaging a saloon to every 15 voters, while the rest of the wards throughout the city have a saloon to about every 30 voters. The high license bill comes before the House at llarrisburg to - day, to which is due the distribution of the Law and Order Society's statement
