Entered at the San Bernardino postoffice for transmission as second class mail matter EDITORIAL Charles M.Brown San Bernardino county has lost a great citizen in the passing of Charles II. Brown of Redlands. For 58 years he had been a leader in the citrus fruit business, and therefore was one of the founders of the modern methods of that industry. It was in the field of politics that he found his greatest pleasure. He belonged to the old school which accepted politics as a public service. Never had he sought a. political office for himself; he won and held a post of respect in Democratic poli tics as a duty to his county ana siaxe, ior it was his conception of public service there should be someone in the community who could present the problems of his neighbors to authorities at Washington when the Democratic party was in power. Mr. Brown was the counsellor of two presidents Woodrow Wilson and Frank fin D. Roosevelt. He was the intimate friend of the late Senator William G. Mc-Adoo. Mc-Adoo. Mc-Adoo. Time after time he granted appeals cf his state, county and various industries that he so to Washington to aid' in the presentation of problems of public concern. It was from such service that he took a vast measure of personal satisfaction. satisfaction. The Democratic convention of last July was his thirteenth and he recognized it as his last. He was steadfast in his conviction conviction that Mr. Roosevelt should be nomi nated. He was the dean of the California delegation and no other member of the convention exceeded his record of con tinuous attendance since 1896. San Bernardino county is a better place In which to live because Charles M. Brown was a benevolent citizen. There are. literally thousands who knew him as friend. 30 on on Gallup building,
