Minors, adults win LL games The Freeland Little League program came to a close this past weekend with two exciting games as the Minor all-stars defeated the Rookies in the annual small-fry George Ursta Sr. Memorial tournament, 4-3, and the Coaches adult team whitewashed the Little League all-stars in the Rover Schaub Memorial game, 3-0. The Minors scored the winning run in the bottom of the last inning. Jeff Ackerman drew a walk and with one out Paul Cherone drilled a single and Jeremy Myers walked to load the bases. With Mark Spetz batting, a wild pitch was uncorked and Ackerman raced home with the clincher. Bill Hauze, with six strikeouts, and Jeremy Myers with eight, pitched well for the Minor stars. Sam Kiddish recorded eight strikeouts and Robert Barna another seven to pace the Rooks. Dean Drumn, Jeff Ackerman and Paul Cherone had singles for the winners and Sam Kiddish, Ryan Krause, Matt Peruchetti and Jonathan Reese singled for the LL yearlings. VjL, , Amazingly, there were no errors in the well-matched kids' game. In the Coaches vs. LL All-Stars game, the adults won with defense. After going ahead 3-0, mainly on a two-run homer shot by Ron Matushoneck, the adults ended the game with a nifty 4-6-3 double play, Bob Quinn to John Lapochak to Adam Gerlach. In addition to Matushoneck's homer and bunt single, Joe Mazurick also tabbed two and Junior bowling ends The Junior Bowling League at St. Michael's lanes will end its summer schedule tonight and Thursday. Bowlers will compete in "Scotch doubles" and bowlers must bring a parent or friend to bowl with them. Everyone will be treated to a hot dog party while bowling. Last week's results were: B Wednesday: TJ. Crofcheck, 53; Kevin Falatko, 61, 74; Joseph Evancho, 50; Courtney Hudak, Gerlach, Lapchak, Dan Nocchi and Bill Myers each hit a single for the winners. BJ Myers had two hits for the all-stars and Ryan Uricheck and Jonathan Marion singled. The day's program started with introductions of Little League personnel and players with John Ursta, LL player agent, as master of ceremonies. A large turnout of fans watched the two exciting contests on a day perfect for baseball. Kim Yagalla, 103; and Jillian Mummie, 121. Bowlers age 9 to 21 can still register for the 1991-92 season tonight and Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. at St. Michael's lanes. Bowlers from last year must reregister.
