"We may have them back in action by the weekend," the uncomplaining Warmath said. "They both were ready to go Wednesday, although Bill said he wasn't cutting as sharply yet." Chorske, slated to start at right half, injured a leg before practice started and for a time it was believed he would miss his senior year entirely. Soltis, figured as running mate to Chqrske, has been out a week with a sprained ankle. Warmath's "greenest" remark referred to a backfield made up almost entirely of sophomores— with the notable exceptions of Soltis and Chorske. While laiting for the pair to add stability to the young backfield, Warmath put the Gopher squad through another two-a-day drill session Wednesday. Joe Salem, a Sioux Falls, S.D. sophomore, continued calling signals for regular Jim Reese who was sidelined for a few clays with pulled groin muscle. Supporting him were halfbacks Arlie Bomstacl and Bill Kauth and fullback Jim Rogers. Kauth and Rogers also are sophomores. The second team backfield, headed by quarterback Larry Johnson, was entirely sophomore. Warmath has two weeks to complete his juggling for a workable combination.
